Gruppo Gamma Divemaster Watches – Legacy Archive

Gruppo Gamma Divemaster and Divemaster II are discontinued dive-watch collections. Produced across two generations from 2016 until the line sold out in 2022, the watches drew on the pioneering rotating-bezel divers of the 1950s while retaining Gruppo Gamma’s bold proportions and luminous dial design.

This category is maintained primarily as a collector reference. Product pages may be sold out or unavailable; open the guide for history, model differences and advice on evaluating a pre-owned or remaining piece.

The history of the Divemaster

The 1950s transformed the dive watch. Blancpain introduced the Fifty Fathoms, Zodiac presented the Sea Wolf and Rolex launched the Submariner, establishing design ideas that would influence generations of rotating-bezel watches. Gruppo Gamma approached that shared history through its own independent design language.

The first Divemaster generation was available from 2016 to 2018. Divemaster II followed in 2019 after the earlier collection’s success, continuing the vintage-diver influence with updated construction and new reference variations. The collection sold out in 2022 and was discontinued. It is now part of Gruppo Gamma’s legacy catalogue rather than a current-production family.

What defines a Divemaster?

Unlike the fixed-bezel Genesis, Vanguard or Peacemaker, the Divemaster follows the familiar rotating-bezel dive-watch format. A prominent bezel, high-contrast hour markers, luminous hands and robust case construction create a more conventional underwater timing layout while the case, typography and dial treatments remain recognisably Gruppo Gamma.

References appeared with different dial colours, date configurations, case finishes and details across Mk I and Mk II. Model codes such as D-01, D-02, D-03L and DG-series references identify specific executions; they should not be treated as interchangeable.

Who is the Divemaster for?

The collection appeals to buyers who want a discontinued Gruppo Gamma with a true rotating dive bezel and a direct visual connection to mid-century dive-watch history. It is also attractive to collectors building a reference set across the brand’s earlier families.

A legacy Divemaster is less suitable for someone who needs predictable new-stock availability or immediate access to replacement cosmetic components. Condition, service history and completeness are more important than they would be for a current model.

Movements, materials and dimensions

Movement, case material and dimensions vary by reference and generation. Gruppo Gamma used established mechanical calibres and modern materials such as stainless steel and sapphire crystal, but buyers should consult the exact archived specification or product page rather than applying one model’s figures to the whole collection.

When assessing fit, check case diameter, lug-to-lug length, thickness and lug width. Also consider bezel width and crystal profile, which can make a dive watch appear larger or taller than its basic diameter suggests. Ask the seller to confirm measurements if the original listing is incomplete.

Buying a discontinued Divemaster

Confirm whether the watch is new old stock, display stock or pre-owned. Inspect bezel alignment and action, crown operation, crystal, lume, case finish and strap condition. Request service information where available and ensure that the reference on the watch matches the description.

Water-resistance numbers from an old specification do not prove that a discontinued watch is currently water resistant. Seals age even when a watch is not worn. A professional pressure test is essential before swimming or diving with any older mechanical watch.

Frequently asked questions

Is Gruppo Gamma still producing the Divemaster?

No. The official legacy archive states that the collection sold out in 2022 and was discontinued.

What is the difference between Divemaster and Divemaster II?

The first generation was offered from 2016 to 2018; Mk II followed from 2019 with its own references and updated executions. Exact differences depend on the model code.

Can Mi-Watch.it order a new one?

Not from normal production. A remaining or collector-owned piece may occasionally surface, but availability cannot be guaranteed.

Are all archived product pages available to purchase?

No. Pages can remain online for product history even when stock is zero. The live availability message controls whether checkout is possible.

Can I dive with a pre-owned Divemaster?

Only after an appropriate technician has inspected and pressure-tested it. Historic water-resistance specifications are not a substitute for current testing.

Does a discontinued watch have a warranty?

Coverage depends on the individual piece, sale date and listing. Confirm warranty terms before purchase rather than assuming the original factory period remains.
