Start with the correct lug width

Lug width is the distance between the inside faces of the watch lugs where the strap attaches. Gruppo Gamma and Venturo models commonly use 22 mm or 24 mm straps, but the correct size varies by collection and generation. A strap that is too wide can bunch or damage its edges; one that is too narrow leaves an unattractive gap and can move excessively.

Check the product specification for your exact reference or measure between the lugs with a millimetre ruler or calliper. Do not estimate from case diameter. Two watches with similar case sizes can use different strap widths.

22 mm and 24 mm collections

Newer 42 mm Vanguard references and Venturo Field III models generally use 22 mm straps. Genesis 2026 and current Peacemaker references typically use 24 mm straps. Earlier or discontinued models can differ, so the watch's own specification remains authoritative.

Straps can taper toward the buckle—for example, a 24 mm lug end may narrow to 22 mm. When reusing an existing buckle, confirm both measurements. A replacement buckle must match the strap's buckle-end width, not only the watch's lug width.

OEM, exclusive and compatible straps

OEM means the strap is supplied or branded by the original watch manufacturer and was designed for specified models. An exclusive or artisan strap is produced separately and selected for its materials, proportions or character. Both can be excellent choices, but branding, buckle and exact fit may differ.

A compatible width does not guarantee an identical fit around unusually shaped cases or integrated bracelet designs. Check whether the listing names your model, and contact us before ordering if the lugs, spring-bar position or case profile are unusual.

Choosing a strap material

Leather

Leather adds warmth and vintage character, particularly to Genesis, Vanguard and Peacemaker cases. It gradually forms to the wrist and develops wear unique to the owner. Keep ordinary leather away from prolonged water, sweat and strong heat unless the strap is specifically described as water resistant.

Rubber

Rubber is the practical choice for water, warm weather and active use. Current accordion-style and FKM options are flexible, easy to clean and visually suited to tool watches. Rinse after salt water and allow the strap to dry before storage.

Canvas and textile

Canvas reinforces the military field-watch character and is often lighter than thick leather. It can absorb moisture, so let it dry fully after use. Colour and texture will soften over time.

Length, wrist fit and hardware

Strap listings normally give the long and short side lengths, such as 125/75 mm or 130/80 mm. Wrist circumference, case length and preferred buckle position all affect fit. Compare the measurements with a strap you already wear comfortably.

Confirm whether the buckle, spring bars and changing tool are included. Buckle material and finish should ideally complement the case—brushed steel, aged steel or bronze—although mixing finishes is a personal style choice. Bronze buckles can develop patina just like a bronze watch case.

Changing a watch strap safely

Work on a clean, soft surface and use a suitable spring-bar tool. Protect the lugs with low-tack tape if you are concerned about scratches. Compress the spring bar carefully and confirm both ends are seated before wearing the watch. Pull gently on each strap side after installation.
