The Gruppo Gamma Vanguard AG-00 and AG-10 share a bold visual identity, but they offer different reasons to buy. The AG-00 appeals through its larger proportions and Swiss ETA movement. The AG-10 brings a shorter case, a Japanese Miyota movement and a luminous forged-carbon dial.
Choosing between them starts with how you want the watch to feel and look. Here is a practical comparison of the references listed at Mi-Watch.

Which Vanguard will fit your wrist better?
The difference in diameter is only one millimetre. The difference along the wrist is more useful: on these listed dimensions, the AG-10 is three millimetres shorter from lug tip to lug tip. That can make it easier to accommodate, although wrist shape and the way the bracelet or strap drops away from the case still matter.
Use a comfortable watch you already own as your reference. Compare its lug-to-lug length, then look at how close its lugs sit to the edges of your wrist. If that watch already occupies the full flat surface, adding length deserves careful thought. A wrist circumference alone cannot guarantee that either Vanguard will fit.
The AG-00 makes sense if substantial watches are part of your collection and you like a broad strap. The AG-10 is the more compact starting point, but its crown-protection assembly also deserves a look in photographs. Case diameter does not describe every part that projects from a watch.
ETA 2824-2 or Miyota 9039?
The movement may settle the decision for a collector who specifically wants the Swiss ETA 2824-2. That is the AG-00’s distinguishing feature. The AG-10 uses the Miyota 9039, a Japanese automatic calibre suited to its no-date display. Both can be wound by hand.
A movement’s country of manufacture is one part of its appeal. For an everyday purchase, also consider how much you enjoy the dial, whether the case is comfortable and how you will arrange servicing. Buying a watch for a movement you admire makes little sense if you rarely want to wear the complete watch.
Two different dial personalities
The AG-00 has the familiar contrast of a black dial and large luminous markers. Its restrained surface lets the proportions and hands carry the design. For a closer look, read our dedicated Vanguard AG-00 guide.
The AG-10 adds texture through forged carbon infused with luminous pigment. The manufacturer describes variation between individual dials, so photographs illustrate the character rather than a pattern that every watch will reproduce. If you like a dial with visible material texture, this is a strong reason to consider the newer reference.
Straps and water use
The different lug widths mean that an AG-00’s 24 mm strap is not a direct fit for the AG-10’s 22 mm lugs. Check the included bracelet and straps on the exact listing: packages can differ between references and production batches.
The AG-00’s original rating is 300 m, while the AG-10 is listed at 100 m. Follow the instructions for the particular crown mechanism and have the condition of an older watch assessed before water use. A leather strap should not be treated as waterproof because the watch has a water-resistance rating.
Which one should you choose?
- Start with the AG-00 if the ETA movement, larger case and classic dial are the features you most want.
- Start with the AG-10 if shorter proportions and the luminous forged-carbon dial appeal more.
- Ask about fit first if your current watch is already at the limit of what you find comfortable.
