While many modern tool watches have drawn inspiration from the wristwatch, Gruppo Gamma looked to the depth gauge when it developed the Nexus in 2019. Its jumping-hour complication reinterprets the visual language of a vintage depth gauge, creating one of the most unconventional watches in the Gruppo Gamma line-up.
The Nexus concept and renders were publicly unveiled in March 2019, followed by the first prototypes in September 2019.

The depth-gauge inspiration
Military frogmen in the 1940s commonly carried three wrist instruments: a watch, compass and depth gauge. Many modern watches reinterpret the timepiece itself. For Nexus, Gruppo Gamma looked instead at the visual language of the depth gauge, creating a mechanical watch that feels like specialised equipment rather than a conventional dial with central hands.
The concept and early renders were shown publicly in March 2019, followed by prototypes later that year. The production watches combined a broad steel case, strong luminous display and an unusual hour indication that immediately separated Nexus from Genesis, Vanguard and Peacemaker.
How the Nexus display works
Nexus uses a jumping or wandering-style hour indication rather than a normal central hour hand. The display advances through the hour sectors while a separate indication shows the minutes. This arrangement takes a little time to learn, but the instrument-like presentation is central to the collection's appeal.

The listed ND-02 uses a Japanese Miyota 8215 automatic base movement together with the display system required by the Nexus design. The Miyota 8215 is a widely used mechanical calibre valued for robustness and established servicing familiarity. The complication and case-specific components, however, are unique to the model and should be handled by an appropriately experienced technician.
