Looking for a Nexus?

Gruppo Gamma Nexus is a discontinued mechanical tool-watch collection inspired by the depth gauges worn by military frogmen. Its unconventional hour display and instrument-like case made it one of the brand's most recognisable designs. Only a very small number of pieces remain in the market; Mi-Watch.it currently lists one Nexus ND-02 Damascus Steel, subject to live availability.

The depth-gauge inspiration

Military frogmen in the 1940s commonly carried three wrist instruments: a watch, compass and depth gauge. Many modern watches reinterpret the timepiece itself. For Nexus, Gruppo Gamma looked instead at the visual language of the depth gauge, creating a mechanical watch that feels like specialised equipment rather than a conventional dial with central hands.

The concept and early renders were shown publicly in March 2019, followed by prototypes later that year. The production watches combined a broad steel case, strong luminous display and an unusual hour indication that immediately separated Nexus from Genesis, Vanguard and Peacemaker.

How the Nexus display works

Nexus uses a jumping or wandering-style hour indication rather than a normal central hour hand. The display advances through the hour sectors while a separate indication shows the minutes. This arrangement takes a little time to learn, but the instrument-like presentation is central to the collection's appeal.

Owners should read the operating instructions before setting or using the watch. Do not force the crown or attempt to correct the display by moving controls in an unsupported direction. The linked manual explains operation more reliably than a brief product summary.

Who is the Nexus for?

Nexus is for collectors who value unusual mechanical displays, industrial design and discontinued Gruppo Gamma references. It is not the safest choice for someone seeking a discreet first mechanical watch: the case is substantial, the display is intentionally unconventional and replacement pieces are scarce.

The ND-02 Damascus Steel is particularly distinctive. Damascus-style steel shows layered, flowing patterning across the case, so the exact surface appearance varies. Buyers drawn to uniform polished finishing may prefer another collection; buyers who value visible material character often see that variation as the point.

Movement and construction

The listed ND-02 uses a Japanese Miyota 8215 automatic base movement together with the display system required by the Nexus design. The Miyota 8215 is a widely used mechanical calibre valued for robustness and established servicing familiarity. The complication and case-specific components, however, are unique to the model and should be handled by an appropriately experienced technician.

Current listing specifications identify a 44 mm case, approximately 15.5 mm thickness, 52 mm lug-to-lug length and 100 metres of water resistance. The broad proportions and visual depth create significant wrist presence even though the lug-to-lug measurement remains controlled.

Discontinued status and remaining availability

Nexus is out of production. A live “one available” message refers to the remaining listed piece and does not indicate renewed manufacturing. Once sold, Mi-Watch.it cannot promise another. Sold-out Nexus pages may remain online as reference material for collectors and search users.

For a discontinued watch, condition and completeness matter. Review the photographs, strap, packaging and warranty statement. Ask before purchasing if you require a specific serial, untouched case finish or confirmation of included accessories.

Frequently asked questions

Is Nexus still being produced?

No. Nexus is a discontinued Gruppo Gamma collection. Any current availability is remaining or collector stock.

Is the ND-02 case pattern identical on every watch?

No. Damascus-style layered patterning creates natural visual variation. Product photographs represent the model, but the exact pattern can differ.

Is Nexus easy to read?

It is clear once familiar, but it does not read like a conventional three-hand watch. Review the manual and display video before ordering if the format is new to you.

Does it use a Swiss movement?

No. The listed ND-02 uses a Japanese Miyota 8215 automatic base movement.

Can Mi-Watch.it source another after the last piece sells?

We cannot guarantee it. Registering interest may help if a collector piece returns, but discontinued production means availability is inherently uncertain.

How will the remaining watch be shipped?

Most available watches ship from our European Union warehouses with DHL Express tracking. The product page and shipping page provide current information.
